THE GREAT SOUTH EAST - QUEENSLAND
from Holidays & Honeymoons magazine, story by Natalie Bannister, photography Tourism Queensland

If it’s sunshine you’re looking for, few places on earth can rival the golden rays which permeate the ‘Sunshine State’. It is everywhere; shimmering on the water, punctuating the land and glowing on the freckled cheeks of the people who are lucky enough to live here. The south Queensland coastline is as diverse as it is spectacular, exciting as it is relaxing, and always romantic.

The Sunshine Coast

Just over an hour’s drive north of Brisbane, the beaches of the Sunshine Coast run for 64 kilometres and provide a less hectic approach to holidays than the Gold Coast. The Sunshine Coast gives you room to breathe, in a largely unspoilt and carefully protected environment that offers an unsurpassed array of holiday attractions and activities. Beautiful beachside townships line the coastline, with an abundance of cosmopolitan cafes, restaurants and boutiques so close to the beach it’s as though they were toppling into the shimmering waters of its divine sea. Romantic, lazy days in the sun, on the sand, or amongst the stylish atmosphere of this region and its seaside communities draw holiday-makers in search of relaxation.

Nestled at the northern end of the Sunshine Coast is beautiful Noosa Heads. The translation of its original Aboriginal name ‘Noothera’ is ‘Place of shade’ or ‘Perfect place’. Today, Noosa is still the perfect place for a holiday in a perfect environment and is, undoubtedly, the centre of the Sunshine Holiday Coast.

Noosa has a love affair with the outdoors. Style and sophistication blend perfectly with a laid back beach atmosphere without compromising the perfect harmony of its natural surroundings.

The cosmopolitan restaurants, chic sidewalk and beachside cafes and classy bars, nestled between low-rise luxury resorts, are synonymous with innovative cuisine, dreamy cocktails and an unmistakable salty-aired ambience.

With one of the highest recorded rates of sunshine in the world, Noosa abounds in recreational offerings to appease the adventurous and lovers of the outdoors. The surrounding beaches, shining waterways, National Parks, picturesque coves and bays, and networked walking trails will keep even the most active couple busy throughout the days and well into the nights.

The Noosa River provides the scene for pleasure sailing, windsurfing, fishing and swimming, or venture across to the start of 40 mile beach where you can take a four-wheel drive all the way to the spectacular Fraser Island, passing the famous coloured sands of this delightful region. Noosa is also a convenient springboard for day trips to the many delightful hinterland attractions which frame this stunning coastal wonderland.

The Sunshine Coast ... holiday perfection!
